About fifty people from the Warped Tour donated their time to help beautify the BMX park in Natividad Creek Park.
The volunteers planted twenty trees on the slopes of the park and nearly 100 grasses, shrubs, and ground covers along the fence. Each planted area also received the paper and mulch treatment which created a strip along the fence that will hopefully keep the worst of the weeds down.
The volunteers also weeded in the BMX park and collected trash along the creek.

Pictures of the progress made. )

We worked first on watering the natives and weeding around them in the field near the skate park.

After that we scouted around the BMX park and brainstormed on projects the Warped Tour group coming in August can work on. We're thinking of planting and using the paper/mulch method along the fence and perhaps in other spots.

We also took a look at the 'meadow' area to see some of the result of the paper/mulch method. So far it has been very successful with a minimum of weeds and rapid growth of the natives planted in the paper/mulch area. It will be interesting to see how it holds up over the winter. We've decided that the method is absolutely worth trying with other planting sites.

We spent the last part of our day out there collecting seeds from California poppies.

Worked on weedwhacking in the Salad Bowl o'Doom in Natividad Creek Park and pre-dug holes for an event in the area weedwhacked.
We tried to find the native plants we had planted a few months ago during an event on the hillside parallel Freedom but it's thick with poison hemlock.
We also checked up on the meadow area which seems to be doing well with the paper and mulch method. We photographed all those areas and test dug in Discover Garden.
